En el día de hoy la Academia de Artes y Ciencias Cinematográficas dio a conocer las películas y cortometrajes pre seleccionados para algunas de las categorías de los premios Oscar 2024. Gracias a este anuncio preliminar, se supo que en la categoría Mejor película internacional se encuentran en carrera La sociedad de la nieve -de Juan Antonio Bayona-, la mexicana Totem y el reciente estreno de Aki Kaurismäki, Fallen Leaves. Así, Los delincuentes, película que la Argentina había enviado para competir, quedó afuera.
Como era de esperarse, Barbie y Oppenheimer, los dos sucesos cinematográficos más importantes del 2023, compiten en esta pre selección en categorías como Sonido y Música original. Por su parte, el film de Greta Gerwig competiría en Canción original con algunas de las piezas que ya están pre seleccionadas, como "Dance the Night" de Dua Lipa y "I'm Just Ken", interpretada por Ryan Gosling.
Entre las películas que también integran esta lista de pre seleccionadas se cuenta Poor Things de Yorgos Lanthimos, Los asesinos de la luna de Martin Scorsese y The Zone of Interest de Jonathan Glazer, entre otras. También se encuentran entre las pre seleccionadas en mayor cantidad de categorías Napoleón de Ridley Scott y Maestro de Bradley Cooper, confirmando que estarán entre los títulos más importantes de esta temporada de premiaciones.
