En septiembre de este año se cumplirá el tercer aniversario de que R.E.M. anunció su separación ¿definitiva? En aquél momento la noticia nos agarró desprevenidos porque ese mismo año habían editado su disco Collapse Into Now (2011, Warner Bros.). Sin embargo, la banda (y sobre todo Michael Stipe) siguió activa de algún u otro modo: publicaron su single final, estrenaron un video para "Blue" y en el interín Automatic For The People cumplió 20 años, lo que fue excelente motivo para celebrar.
Parece ser que hay muchísimo material sin editar todavía. Esta semana la banda publicará sus MTV Unplugged de 1991 y de 2011 más una colección de 50 rarezas de la época en la que estaban en I.R.S. Records, pero no se quedaron con eso. En la misma semana, anuncian una antología de 131 rarezas (lados B, temas que nunca llegaron a los discos y cortes en vivo) de su período con el gran sello corporativo en el que estuvieron: Warner Bros. Complete Rarities: Warner Bros. 1988-2011 es el nombre de este material que ya está disponible para comprar mediante Amazon.
Desafortunadamente, todavía no llegó a internet alguna probada de lo que se puede escuchar en estas 131 canciones, pero sí trascendió el arte de tapa y el infinito tracklist que compartimos a continuación:
